Fixed Braces - an Overview

1. Traditional Metal Braces: These are the most well-known and widely used braces. They consist of high-quality metal brackets that are glued to the teeth and connected by a wire. They are durable and effective, but can be visually noticeable.

2. Ceramic Braces: Similar to metal braces, but the brackets are made of ceramic that is color-matched to the teeth. These braces are less visible than metal ones but can be more expensive.

3. Self-Ligating Braces: These braces use brackets that have a mechanism to hold the wire without elastic bands. They are more efficient and require fewer adjustments than traditional braces.

4. Lingual Braces: These are attached to the inside of the teeth, making them invisible from the outside. They were an aesthetic alternative but mostly initially uncomfortable and usually more expensive. Nowadays they were replaced by Aligner therapy.

The choice of the right brace depends on various factors, such as the degree of dental misalignment, aesthetic preferences, and budget. An orthodontist can provide personalized advice to determine the best option for your child.
