Braces Emergencies

Wire Has Come Loose

Stay calm. If the wire of your braces comes loose and causes discomfort, you can carefully cut it with a small wire cutter or a nail clipper. If this is not possible, or if the wire is not causing discomfort, you can leave it as is and schedule an appointment with us as soon as possible to fix the issue.

Loose Bracket

Stay calm. If the bracket is still attached to the wire, try to gently push it back to its original position. Use dental wax to stabilize the bracket and prevent it from moving or injuring the inside of your mouth. . Avoid hard or sticky foods that could further loosen the bracket. Schedule an appointment with your orthodontist as soon as possible to have the bracket properly reattached.

Mouth Sore

Stay calm. Rinse your mouth with a mild saltwater solution to clean the area and prevent infections. For minor sores, antiseptic mouthwashes can help speed up the healing process and relieve pain. Use dental wax on parts of your braces that are irritating the sore to prevent further injury. If the sore is bleeding heavily or not healing, please seek immediate attention from a dentist or orthodontist.
