Statutory or private insurance, or self-paying from Switzerland: how we bill, and how you know in advance what a treatment will cost.

What a treatment costs depends on your diagnosis, the scope of treatment and how you are insured. For some services you will find indicative amounts in our frequently asked questions. What counts is the written treatment and cost plan or cost estimate you receive before treatment starts.

German statutory health insurance

We treat patients with German statutory health insurance. Examinations and treatments covered by your insurer are billed directly to your insurer. Please bring your insurance card with you.

Some services are not covered by statutory insurance, or only in part, for example:

  • professional teeth cleaning – some insurers offer a subsidy

  • bleaching and other purely cosmetic treatments

  • implants – there is a fixed subsidy for the crown, bridge or denture fitted onto them

  • orthodontic treatment for adults, except in exceptional cases

  • aligner treatment, where it goes beyond what statutory insurance covers

We discuss such services with you beforehand and agree them in writing before we start.

Crowns, bridges and dentures: fixed subsidy and cost plan

For crowns, bridges and dentures, German statutory health insurance pays a fixed subsidy based on your diagnosis. If your annual check-ups have been recorded regularly in your bonus booklet, the subsidy is higher. You submit the treatment and cost plan to your insurer before treatment starts; once it is approved, we can begin. Read more under dental prosthetics.

Braces for children and teenagers

For children and teenagers with German statutory health insurance, the insurer covers orthodontic treatment if the misalignment is pronounced enough (orthodontic indication groups KIG 3 to 5) and treatment starts before their 18th birthday. You first pay a 20 per cent share yourself – 10 per cent for the second and each further child in treatment at the same time and living in the same household – which the insurer refunds once treatment has been completed as planned. Read more under Orthodontics in Singen.

Private health insurance

As a private patient you receive an invoice under the German fee schedule for dentists (GOZ), which you submit to your insurer. How much is reimbursed depends on your policy – in full, in part or not at all. Privately insured patients receive the invoice for the first appointment and claim it back from their insurer. For larger treatments we recommend submitting the treatment and cost plan to your insurer in advance.

If you have statutory health insurance with private supplementary cover, you submit the invoice for additional services to your supplementary insurer.

Patients from Switzerland and abroad

We treat patients from Switzerland and other countries as self-paying patients. Billing follows German law. You can submit the written cost plan to your supplementary insurer in advance; whether it contributes depends on your policy. Read more under Dentist for patients from Switzerland.

Frequently asked questions about costs and billing

Why don’t you publish fixed prices?

Because the costs can only be estimated reliably after an examination. Two treatments with the same name can involve very different amounts of work. For some services, such as professional teeth cleaning or the first appointment, our frequently asked questions give indicative amounts. What counts is the written breakdown you receive before treatment starts.

What does the first appointment cost?

For patients with statutory insurance we bill the examination to the insurer. Privately insured and self-paying patients receive an invoice; the amount depends mainly on whether X-rays are needed. If you bring recent X-rays that are no more than twelve months old, there are no additional costs for them.

Will I get a cost estimate in advance?

Yes. Before treatment starts you receive a written treatment and cost plan or cost estimate that you can submit to your insurer.

Does health insurance pay for professional teeth cleaning?

Statutory health insurers usually pay nothing towards it, or only part of the cost. Private and supplementary insurers often cover the costs, depending on the policy. Read more under Professional teeth cleaning in Singen.

Can I pay by card?

Yes. You can pay in cash, by card or – subject to a credit check – by invoice through a billing centre.

Questions about your invoice?

If you have questions about a cost plan or an invoice, just ask us – at the practice, by phone or via our contact form.
